This area is transformed into a wonderland during the Winter season with over 8 meters of snow in 2008! Skiers will not be disappointed by the resorts of Gosau / Dachstein West, which are accessible by ski bus from Bad Goisern. For those who love the challenge of cross-country skiing, there is also a trail in Bad Goisern, taking you through some stunning countryside.
If you fancy a day off skiing, there is Winter walking in the mountains where you can stop off for a hearty lunch at one of the mountain refuges or even take the toboggan downhill home! Christmas and New Year are particularly special in Austria, with Christmas markets with traditional food (and cakes!) and the sense of Austrian cosiness, 'Gemütlichkeit'.
Haus Mirabelle is near a number of ski resorts. Whilst there is cross-country skiing and ski touring surrounding the house, there is a small ski resort at the 'Katrin Alm' in neighbouring Bad Ischl, which is 10 km drive away.
